When I first saw the new John Lewis Christmas ad I instinctively liked it because it reminded me of one of my favourite programs growing up, Animals of Farthing Wood and reminded me that Christmas was only round the corner. However, I was blown away when the making of the video graced my inbox. The animation was painstakingly crafted to create this visually sumptuous film. The art direction provided by Jake&Josh worked well to highlight the two most traditional and time-honoured animation processes – stop-motion and traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. With advances in new technology and people breaking the boundaries there, it is not often that you see this level of skill and craft go into an animation and I think it has worked extremely well in creating something unique.
